How to Resell and Transfer SeatGeek Tickets

Send SeatGeek tickets to a Theatr buyer, cancel a pending transfer, and identify tickets that must be transferred through another provider.

SeatGeek tickets can be resold and transferred through Theatr when they are eligible for delivery to another person.

The correct transfer process depends on where the tickets are stored:

  • SeatGeek-stored tickets: Transfer them directly between SeatGeek accounts.

  • Third-party mobile tickets: Transfer them through Ticketmaster, AXS, a team app, or whichever provider holds the tickets.

Do not assume that every ticket purchased on SeatGeek is stored in SeatGeek.

Confirm where the tickets are stored

Open the event under Tickets in SeatGeek.

If the tickets and a Transfer option appear in SeatGeek, use SeatGeek’s transfer process.

If the order directs you to Ticketmaster, AXS, MLB Ballpark, or another ticketing platform, open that provider and use its official transfer feature. Third-party mobile tickets do not move between SeatGeek accounts.

Before listing SeatGeek tickets on Theatr

  • Confirm the event, date, time, section, row, seats, and quantity.

  • Check whether the tickets are stored in SeatGeek or another platform.

  • Confirm that the applicable provider offers a valid transfer method.

  • Review the order for delayed delivery or venue restrictions.

  • Upload proof of purchase with the price paid and event details visible.

  • Cover ticket barcodes, confirmation numbers, and personal information in your proof.

  • Do not rely on a screenshot of a moving or rotating barcode.

How to list SeatGeek tickets on Theatr

  1. Start creating your listing on Theatr.

  2. Upload your SeatGeek proof of purchase.

  3. Select SeatGeek as the ticket source.

  4. Under Handoff Method, choose Via original platform.

  5. Select the most accurate Expected Transfer Timing.

  6. Complete the listing and tap Publish.

If SeatGeek or the underlying provider has not released the tickets, choose timing that accurately reflects when you expect them to become available.

How to transfer tickets stored in SeatGeek

After the tickets sell:

  1. Open the order under Orders → Sell in Theatr.

  2. Contact the buyer to confirm the email address or phone number on their SeatGeek account.

  3. Open Tickets in SeatGeek and select the event.

  4. Select Transfer, followed by Transfer tickets.

  5. Choose only the tickets included in the Theatr order.

  6. Enter the buyer’s recipient information exactly as shown in Theatr.

  7. Review the seats and recipient, then select Transfer now.

  8. Ask the buyer to accept the tickets.

SeatGeek will show the tickets as Pending until the buyer accepts them. After SeatGeek shows the transfer as Accepted:

  1. Return to the Theatr order.

  2. Tap I have transferred the ticket or I have transferred the tickets.

  3. Under Upload transfer proof, upload a screenshot showing the accepted SeatGeek transfer and relevant seats.

  4. Tap Upload.

What the buyer needs to do

SeatGeek may notify the buyer by email, text, or push notification.

The buyer should:

  1. Open the SeatGeek transfer notification.

  2. Sign in to SeatGeek or create an account using the recipient information associated with the transfer.

  3. Open Tickets.

  4. Accept the pending tickets.

  5. Confirm that the correct event and seats appear in the account.

The buyer does not need an existing SeatGeek account before the transfer is sent, but they must create one to accept and access SeatGeek-stored tickets.

If the SeatGeek transfer is pending

A Pending status means the buyer has not accepted the tickets.

Ask the buyer to:

  • Check their email, spam, junk, and text messages.

  • Sign in to the SeatGeek account connected to the transfer information.

  • Open Tickets and look for the pending transfer.

  • Confirm that the correct email address or phone number was used.

The sender can cancel a pending SeatGeek transfer until the buyer accepts it:

  • On desktop, open the ticket details and select Cancel.

  • On mobile, tap the three dots next to Pending, then select Cancel.

After canceling, the tickets return to the sender’s SeatGeek account and can be transferred again. Once the buyer accepts them, the standard cancellation option is no longer available.

How to transfer third-party tickets purchased on SeatGeek

Some SeatGeek orders are fulfilled through another provider, such as Ticketmaster, AXS, MLB Ballpark, or a team or venue app.

For these tickets:

  1. Open the Theatr order and confirm the buyer’s contact information.

  2. Sign in to the platform where the tickets are actually stored.

  3. Select the event and the tickets included in the Theatr order.

  4. Use that provider’s official transfer feature.

  5. Ask the buyer to accept the tickets in the required provider account.

  6. Wait until the provider shows that the transfer was accepted.

  7. Return to Theatr and upload proof of the completed transfer.

Do not try to transfer a third-party ticket through SeatGeek’s direct account-to-account transfer flow.

What if the tickets are not available yet?

Third-party mobile tickets are sometimes released only 24–48 hours before an event, and some arrive on the day of the event.

If the tickets sell before they become available:

  1. Open the Theatr order under Orders → Sell.

  2. Tap I can’t make the transfer right now.

  3. Contact the buyer and agree on when the tickets will be delivered.

  4. Return to the order and tap I’ve confirmed with the buyer.

  5. Upload a screenshot showing that the buyer agreed to the timing.

  6. Submit the delayed-transfer confirmation.

  7. Transfer the tickets when SeatGeek or the underlying provider releases them.

  8. Wait for the buyer to accept them.

  9. Upload proof of the completed handoff in Theatr.

Confirming a delay does not mean the tickets have been delivered. The seller must still complete the transfer and submit final proof.

Can I use Instant E-Ticket Transfer?

Do not use Instant E-Ticket Transfer for:

  • Tickets held in another provider’s account

  • Tickets with moving, rotating, or refreshing barcodes

  • Tickets that must be opened in the SeatGeek app

  • Tickets that have not been released yet

Instant E-Ticket Transfer may be used only when you have an eligible static PDF or ticket image that can be shared independently and the venue permits that format.

When a provider account or mobile app is required for entry, use Via original platform.

If Transfer is unavailable

Check whether:

  • The tickets are stored with another provider.

  • The venue has placed a delivery delay on the order.

  • The event or ticket type has a transfer restriction.

  • The tickets are still pending acceptance from an earlier transfer.

Do not use a screenshot of a rotating barcode as a substitute.

If no valid delivery method is available, do not list the tickets. If they have already sold on Theatr, contact the buyer and cancel the order before marking them as transferred. If the cancellation option is unavailable, contact Theatr Support.

If the buyer cannot access the tickets

Confirm whether the transfer shows Pending or Accepted.

  • If it is Pending, verify the destination and cancel or resend the transfer if necessary.

  • If it is Accepted, ask the buyer to sign in to the correct SeatGeek or third-party account.

  • If the wrong person accepted the tickets, contact SeatGeek or the underlying provider and Theatr Support immediately.

Keep the transfer confirmation, acceptance status, and relevant messages until the event has passed.

Transfer options and requirements can change. For the most up-to-date information, see SeatGeek’s ticket delivery guidance.
