How Instant E-Ticket Transfer works

Learn how to access your tickets as a buyer and set up automatic ticket delivery as a seller.

Instant E-Ticket Transfer, also called Instant Transfer, means the seller uploads ticket files to Theatr before the tickets are bought. After purchase, the uploaded tickets are available in the buyer’s order.

For buyers

How do I know if a listing has Instant Transfer?

Look for Instant E-Ticket Transfer on Theatr in the listing’s handoff details. The description says Download instantly after purchase. This means the seller has already uploaded the tickets.

How do I access and save my tickets?

  1. Open Orders → Buy and select your order.

  2. Tap the ticket image or PDF to open it. Check that the event, date, time, seats, and quantity match what you bought.

  3. Use Save to Photos for ticket images or Save PDF for a PDF file.

You can open the uploaded tickets right away. Save them before heading to the venue so you can access them if your connection is poor.

What if I’m unsure about the ticket format?

A ticket image or PDF can be a valid way to receive a ticket. Whether it can be used for entry depends on the ticket’s format and the original ticketing provider’s instructions. Instant Transfer describes how the file was delivered; it does not replace an original-platform transfer when one is required.

If you’re unsure about the file, or would feel more comfortable receiving the ticket through the original platform, open your order and tap Help → Contact Seller. Ask the seller to help confirm the format and whether they can transfer the ticket that way. If the ticket requires an original-platform transfer, ask the seller to complete it so you can accept and open the ticket in the required app or account.

If you can’t reach the seller or need help coordinating, contact Theatr Support. If you’re already speaking with us, continue that conversation. Let us know if the event is approaching. For more on ticket formats, see I received a screenshot of the ticket. Will that work?

What if there is an unresolved problem with the ticket?

If you can’t access the ticket, it doesn’t match what you bought, or the venue won’t accept it, report the problem from Orders → Buy → select your order → Help → Dispute.

You can submit a dispute before the event starts, and must do so no later than 30 minutes after the event’s listed start time. Submit with the evidence you have, even if you’re still waiting for information or a seller reply. See How do I open a dispute? for the full steps.

If the app prevents you from submitting within the window, contact Theatr Support right away with your order details, when you tried, and what happened.

For sellers

When should I use Instant Transfer?

Use this option when you already have ticket PDFs or images that the buyer can use for entry, and you can upload them before the listing goes live.

Upload the actual tickets, with each complete barcode or QR code clearly visible. Check that the event, date, time, venue, seats, and quantity match your listing. A receipt alone is not a ticket. Replace blurry or cropped files with clear, complete copies before listing.

When should I choose another handoff method?

Choose another method if:

  • The tickets have not been released yet.

  • The tickets require a transfer through the original ticketing platform, or have changing barcodes that cannot be used as static images.

  • The tickets are physical and need to be collected or handed over in person.

Select the available Handoff Method that matches how you will deliver the tickets, such as Via original platform, Email or Text, Box office pick up, or In person. Choose an accurate Expected Transfer Timing and complete the handoff after the sale.

How do I set up an Instant Transfer listing?

  1. Open the Theatr app and tap Sell. If the selling overview appears, tap Create listing.

  2. Follow the listing setup to add your proof of purchase, ticket details, and price. See How do I sell tickets on Theatr? for the full steps.

  3. Under Handoff Method, choose Instant E-Ticket Transfer and tap Upload My Tix.

  4. Upload the ticket PDF or images, and match each ticket image to the correct seat when prompted.

  5. Check that every ticket is included and the files match the listing, then finish the listing setup and tap Publish. Check the resulting status; a submitted listing may still be under review.

If one PDF contains multiple tickets, those tickets must be sold together to one buyer. To sell them separately, upload a separate ticket image for each ticket.

What happens after the tickets sell?

The uploaded tickets are automatically delivered to the buyer in Theatr. For tickets that can be used directly as a PDF or image, this completes the handoff; you do not need to send them again or mark them as transferred.

Stay available in case the buyer needs help with the files or an original-platform transfer. Do not use or share the tickets after they have sold.
