Is Theatr legitimate and safe?

Get to know Theatr, the NYC ticket resale app, and what to expect when you buy tickets or need help with an order.

Yes. Theatr is a ticket resale app built around New York City’s live-event community. When someone can’t make a show, Theatr helps them pass their ticket on to someone who can.

How did Theatr get started?

We began as @stooping_theatre, an Instagram community where people shared Broadway tickets they could no longer use. The Theatr app launched in 2023, growing out of that same idea: helping more people get to a show while fewer tickets go unused.

Forbes covered our story in 2024. NPR also included Theatr in its Broadway ticket guide. You can read reviews from people who have used the app on the App Store and Google Play.

Why are some tickets cheaper on Theatr?

Theatr is a marketplace for people to resell tickets at or below what they originally paid. When plans change, that gives sellers a way to recover some or all of their ticket cost, and someone else a chance to enjoy the show. A seller may choose a lower price to help the ticket sell, so you may find tickets for less than their original purchase price.

What can I expect when I buy?

Before paying, you can see the event and seat details, the seller’s proof of purchase, and how and when the tickets will be delivered. That gives you a chance to check that the tickets and delivery arrangements work for your plans.

You pay through Theatr checkout, with payments processed by Stripe. After purchase, you and the seller can find each other’s contact details on the order page, so you can stay in touch about the transfer.

If your listing has Instant E-Ticket Transfer, the tickets are available in your order right away. For other delivery methods, the seller will send the tickets or arrange the handoff with you based on the delivery details in the listing.

Will someone help if there is a problem?

Yes. If a ticket doesn’t arrive, isn’t what you bought or isn’t accepted at the venue, our support team can help with the order and contact the seller when needed. You don’t have to sort out an order problem with the seller on your own.

If you’re requesting a refund for a ticket problem, we’ll review what happened and the supporting information. Any approved refund goes back to the payment method you used for the purchase.

Let us know about a ticket problem as soon as you notice it. For tickets marked as transferred, submit a dispute from your order no later than 30 minutes after the event’s listed start time. Send the information you have; don’t wait for the seller to reply or for every detail to be confirmed. See How do I open a dispute? for the steps. If the app prevents you from submitting within the window, contact Support right away.

If you’re unsure about a listing before buying, you can also contact Theatr Support. We’re happy to help you understand the details.
